Betfred used to be the sister company of my previous employer, Degree 53, and are a UK-based bookmaker that owns and operates over 1500 betting shops in the UK.
Betfred was one of my first apps that I worked on, of which included small change requests, and was part of the redesign which aligned with the change in Apple Guidelines back in 2019, meaning that bookmakers were unable to provide a betting product via a container app.
It was a great experience understanding and learning the how Apple set and maintain a high standard to be accepted into the App store. I found it enjoyable analysing a well-established product and working on adapting it into a fully native environment.

Working along side a highly skilled and talented team, I was able to bound ideas and gather knowledge of how a Sportsbook should most efficiently be used.
I would often partake in the ideation process, understanding the core values of the business, and how we can best adapt to the users needs.
When creating the app, we had to face the challenge around Apples new restrictions around betting container apps, no longer being able to live within a fully native environment.
We conducted extensive research around iOS, and native specific features, and how we can ensure that the product provides and fully native experience.

The team analysed the difference between native functionality compared to mobile web products. Extensive user research was conducted, looking at app market leaders outside of the betting industry, as well as analysing direct competitors within it.

One of the main features I worked on was the integration of the 'Racing Post Verdict' into horse racing on the product.
This was understanding a familiar market, and utilising my knowledge of horse racing, thinking about how i would want the information to be presented to me as a user.
